Belarus, a landlocked country in Eastern Europe, was independent from the Soviet Union on August 25th, 1991, and it officially renamed to the Republic of Belarus on December 19th of the same year. On the morning of January 30, “Witness Friendship” Home and Abroad News Press 2018 Winter Junior Journalist Delegation interviewed with the Belarusian Ambassador to China, H.E. Mr. Rudy Kiryl at the ambassador’s residence.

Ambassador delivered a short welcome speech: Good morning the junior journalists of Home and Abroad News Press. My name is Rudy Kiryl, this is the second year of my term here as the ambassador to China. Firstly, I would like to show you a video about Belarus. After watching the video, I will be happy to answer any questions you may have for me.

The junior journalists watched the national promotion video about Belarus. Then, they asked Ambassador Rudy Kiryl many questions.
小记者问：“您是一位年轻的外交官。2017年11月16日您做客中国人民大学 “欧亚大讲堂”，围绕“白俄罗斯和中国合作新时代”主题发表演讲。你认为，青少年应该如何共同维护和发扬两国宝贵友谊、为‘白俄罗斯和中国合作新时代’发展进程贡献力量？谢谢！”
A junior journalist asked: “Hello Ambassador! You are a young but experienced diplomat. You attended the “Eurasian Lecture Hall” at Renmin University of China on November 16th, 2017, you delivered a keynote speech “A New Era of Cooperation between Belarus and China”. In your opinions, how will the young people in China and Belarus jointly maintain and promote the precious friendship between the two countries and contribute more to the development process of ‘Belarus and China's new era of cooperation’? Thank you!”
大使：“白俄罗斯是欧洲的中心，白俄罗斯和中国历来都是一个友好的国家，我们的卢卡申科总统和习近平主席都是好朋友。我必须得承认现在的机会是比较多，特别是在中国和白俄罗斯之间。互相沟通是非常重要的，它仅仅是一个可能性，而且它是一个能够实现的，现在中国和白俄罗斯两个国家正在竭尽全力地利用各种各样的条件和机遇促进这个沟通的产生。”
Ambassador: "Belarus is the center of Europe. Belarus and China have always been friendly countries in history. Both our President Lukashenko and President Xi Jinping are good friends. I must admit that there are more opportunities now, especially between China and Belarus. Mutual communication is extremely important between two countries. It is totally possible and achievable in today’s world. Nowadays, China and Belarus are trying their best to utilize various channels and opportunities to promote the communication between the two countries.”
小记者问：”您有两个可爱的孩子和您们一起在北京生活，请问您会教他们中国语言和中国文化吗？我们怎么样才能和他们成为朋友？谢谢!”
A junior journalist asked: Hello Ambassador! You have 2 lovely children living in Beijing with you. Will you teach them Chinese language and Chinese culture? How can we become friends with them? Thank you!”
大使：我让我儿子来回答吧。
Ambassador: I will let my son to answer your question.
大使的大儿子和妈妈、弟弟也来到我们的采访现场，他一开口，全场小记者尖叫起来，他的中国话说得超级流利。这个孩子天资聪明、人见人爱、思想活跃、记忆超人，具有外交风范。他说自己有很多香港朋友，就是没有中国大陆朋友，妈妈在他旁边说：“今天开始有了，而且很多。”小记者们对他报以微笑。大使表示，白俄罗斯的小孩子正在学习中文。
Ambassador's wife and sons were also there during our interview with the ambassador. As soon as the elder son spoke to us, we all got shocked because of his super fluent Chinese. This boy is very talented and adorable with active thinking and super memories. Also, he has well-established diplomatic manners. He said he has many friends in Hong Kong, but he doesn’t have any friends in Mainland China yet. His mother told him that starting from today, you will have many friends in China, so many of them!” All junior journalists smiled to him. The ambassador said many Belarusian children are studying Chinese language now.
小记者问：”白俄罗斯是一个风格独特，景色秀丽的国家。2018年1月10日，中国白俄罗斯旅游年正式开幕，白俄罗斯对中国公民实行免签，会有更多的中国公民去白俄罗斯观光旅游。作为白俄罗斯驻中国的大使，请您介绍一下白俄罗斯文化、旅游的特色，谢谢。”
Another junior journalist asked: “Belarus is a unique country with great natural resources and beautiful sceneries. China's “Year of Tourism to Belarus” was officially launched on January 10th, 2018. Belarus will provide visa exemption for Chinese nationals to attract more Chinese tourists to visit Belarus. As Ambassador of Belarus to China, could you please tell us about the unique Belarusian culture and tourist attractions? Thank you!”
大使：今年是特殊的一年，是白俄罗斯的旅游年。白俄罗斯的文化是一个大的熔炉，他能够把欧洲的文化和白俄罗斯的文化融合到一起。所以你们会发现白俄罗斯这个文化里面有很多的元素，白俄罗斯有很多城堡的建筑，它还与森林和这个自然资源组成，就像中国的大熊猫一样，它是自然的遗产。
Ambassador: this year is a special year because it is the Year of Tourism in Belarus. Belarusian culture is a big melting pot where European culture and Belarusian culture are perfectly integrated with each other. You will find that the Belarusian culture has many elements from Russia, and that there are many castles in Belarus. It also matches with the forest and the natural resources. Just like China's giant panda, it is a natural heritage.
小记者问：我们都知道白俄罗斯女作家阿列克西耶维奇获得了2015年诺贝尔文学奖，我想知道您最喜欢的白俄罗斯文学是什么？
“We all know that Belarusian writer Svetlana Alexandrovna Alexievich was awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Literature. I wonder what your favorite Belarussian literature is?” we asked.
大使：事实上作为诺贝尔文学奖的获得者呢，她在中国也是非常有名的，而且她也参观过我们白俄罗斯的大使馆，在这边的书架上也是有她的一本中文著作。她是白俄罗斯文学方面的一个代表，不光是她自己获得了奖，事实上她的老师们也有很多都是作者，所以她获得这个奖不光是代表他个人，也是整个白俄罗斯文学界的一个奇迹。
Ambassador: Actually, as the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, she is also very famous in China. She also visited our Belarusian embassy in Beijing before. We have one of her Chinese books on the bookshelf here. She is a representative of Belarusian literary. The Nobel prize was not only her own prize, in fact, many of her teachers were famous authors too. Therefore, the honor of the Nobel Prize is not her own achievement, but also it was a miracle of the entire Belarusian literary.
小记者问：你好大使，我想了解你们国家是如何在利用自然资源的同时保护好自然资源的呢？
Another junior journalist asked: Hello Ambassador, I would like to know more about how your country are utilizing the natural resources while protecting the nature?
大使：白俄罗斯这个国土30%都是被森林覆盖的，而且白俄罗斯大概有一万多个湖泊。森林的话，它是能够提供氧气，不光是为白俄罗斯提供氧气，也是为整个欧洲提供氧气，现在越来越多的外国人来到我们白俄罗斯这个国家呼吸新鲜的空气，除此之外我们有自己独特绿色的环保的标准，来确保自然资源不被工业破坏和污染。
Ambassador: In Belarus, about 30% of the country's territory is covered by forests, and Belarus has more than 10,000 lakes. The forests provide oxygen not only for Belarus but also for the whole of Europe. Many foreigners come to our country to breathe fresh air. In addition, we have our own unique and green environmental protection standards to ensure that natural resources are not damaged or polluted by the industry.
